Apply to save on premiums

Your insurance with NGS Super is based on your default category:

  • NGS General, or
  • NGS Plus.
  • The category you receive when you first join is dependent on your employer’s occupation category.

The opportunity to reduce your premium rates may now be available. If you have had a salary increase or have changed jobs, you may be eligible to apply to change your category, which could result in reduced premium rates.

Eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria will differ depending on whether your insurance category is currently NGS General or NGS Plus. Your insurance category can be located on your most recent annual statement. If your insurance category is NGS Select you are not required to take any action as you are already benefiting from reduced premiums.

I work for an Employer who is not:

  • a school or other body which provides education as its primary function; or
  • a credit union, bank or other employer in the finance sector; or

I work for an Employer who has not registered with NGS Super.

Your Default Category is NGS General

If your duties are limited to professional, managerial, teaching, administrative, clerical, secretarial or similar ‘white collar’ tasks which do not involve manual work and are undertaken entirely (or at least 80%) within an office environment or classroom (excluding workshops), you can apply to change your category to:

  • NGS Plus if you earn a salary of less than $100,000 p.a.

If accepted by TAL, will result in a cheaper premium rate and in some cases an increase in your sum insured.

You can apply online or by completing the Insurance Variation Change Insurance Category form.

How to do it in 3 easy steps

  1. Go to your Member Online account. Enter your member number and your ‘PIN’ to log in
  2. Go to the Access my insurance link and click on TAL insurance portal button
  3. Select the Change your occupation category tile and confirm your occupation, salary and duties of your job.

What happens next?

  1. If you meet the eligibility requirements and request to change your insurance category, you will receive a confirmation email from our insurer TAL confirming your request to change your insurance category.
  2. TAL will review your application and complete appropriate checks. If the request to change is accepted, you will then receive written notification of acceptance of the change in cover and the premiums will be adjusted after your application is finalised.

Important note: If accepted by TAL, a change in your insurance category will result in lower premiums. Your sum insured will not reduce and in some cases will result in an increase in your sum insured.
