Recognising leadership potential – NGS Super scholarship recipient
03 Dec 2025 1 min read
Andrea van den Bol is the Deputy Principal at Northholm Grammar School in New South Wales and was selected to complete the prestigious Independent Schools NSW National Flagship Program. As a fund that is passionate about the development and financial well-being of education professionals, NGS Super is a proud sponsor of the program, supporting five participants with a partially paid scholarship.
The year-long development course combines workshops, mentoring, and reflective learning to help participants deepen their self-awareness and refine their leadership skills.
A journey of reflection and growth
Andrea completed the program in October this year, but her reflections on becoming a principal continued well after the program had finished. Deciding she needed more time to reflect on her learnings, she embarked on a week-long walk along the Italian Camino Trail, which began in Via Francigena and ended in Rome. Andrea used the time, often walking alone, to think more deeply about her career and aspirations.
Leading with purpose
“I am passionate about creating a child-first philosophy. Academic achievement is important, of course, but I want to create an environment where every child is supported, seen, and heard. I believe that when a student feels that support, they can truly thrive. Equally, teachers and education staff need to feel that same level of support.”
Often walking up to 29 kilometres a day, gave Andrea the chance to integrate the learnings from the program and to ask important and sometimes confronting questions. “Working in education is more than teaching,” says Andrea. “It’s about empowering people to be the best they can be. The course helped me realise the importance of this, and being in a leadership position means having the ability to shape a school's culture. That is something I am incredibly excited to be able to do one day.”
Helping teachers grow
For more than thirty-five years, NGS Super has proudly supported education professionals in achieving their financial and personal goals. We recognise that teachers and education staff devote their careers to helping others learn and grow, and we’re equally committed to fostering their own development.
As a sponsor of the Independent Schools NSW National Flagship Program, we aim to empower educators to take charge of their financial future while continuing their lifelong journey of learning and growth.
