Contributions
The minimum contribution stipulated by the Superannuation Guarantee
(SG) legislation is 9%.
Even when a contribution is not required under the SG requirements (e.g. when a member earns
less than $450 in a particular month), there may still be a requirement to pay the Award 3%.
As NGS Super is not able to give specific advice about your obligations as an employer, we
recommend that you consult your employer association if you require advice.
NGS Super is able to accept all contributions - Award, SG, Salary Sacrifice from
non-government school employers.
Please call NGS Super on 1300 133 177 if you need further
information.
When are contributions due?
NGS Super requires all contributions from non-government education employers to be paid
monthly. Although this is in excess of the requirements imposed by the Superannuation Guarantee
legislation, it is a requirement imposed for the benefit of members.
Insurance premiums are deducted monthly from employer contributions. Failure to pay a
contribution could cause an employee to become uninsured, which may leave the employer liable if
the employee should become ill or disabled.
Government legislation requires that all employers pay the super guarantee on a quarterly
basis as a minimum. Payments must be made before the 28th day of the month following the end of the
quarter.
Reporting to staff on superannuation contributions
As an employer, you must report superannuation contributions to employees on their pay
slip. The pay slip must provide the amount, period of contribution, dates contributions
made as well as the name of the superannuation provider.
(Penalties apply for both not reporting to employees and not paying contributions by the cut
off date each quarter.)
